George McCallum Interview, 2000.

In this interview George McCallum (b.1919) discusses his early life in the Zortman area; his father's work running steam engine plows in the area and Canada; father's efforts to start a sheep ranch in Niarada; the mangement of Bovey Restoration, 1948-1997. He specifically discusses the passing of Charles Bovey and Sue Bovey's taking over managment; the beginnings of the Virginia City Trading Company in the 1940s; the first manager Martin Bovey; the role of Galusha, Higgin, and Galusha--an acocunting firm from Helena; the business running in the red for many years and why; the Star Bakery and the cook there, Ann Espey; Internal Revenue Service suggestions concerning profitability; hiring J. Midyette and the changes he brought to the company; name change to Bovey Restorations; other managers including Bruce McCallum, Nancy Mittman, David Hoffman; the railroad and the railroad museum; his recollections of the day Charlie Bovey died; and feelings about the state purchase of Virginia City/Nevada City. Charles Argalis Bovey was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 1, 1907. His parents were Charles Cranston Bovey and Kate Koon Bovey, and his siblings were Martin Koon Bovey and Ruth Bovey Stevens. The Bovey family was part of the Washburn Crosby Milling Corporation, which became known as General Mills.
